How to Get Started with DynamicDrive
Just call 1-877-463-4732 or stop by to let a Direct Auto agent know you want to sign up for the DynamicDrive program. Once you're enrolled, check your inbox for an email containing your personal activation code and follow these step-by-step instructions:
- Install the DynamicDrive app and enter your code when prompted.
- Follow the in-app instructions to set up your phone.
- Take a trip, drive safely, and save money on your car insurance.
Safe Driving Tips to Boost Your Savings
Follow these safe driving tips for your safety and everyone else’s on the road, and to maintain a high score so you can earn more savings at renewal.
- Never drive distracted: Avoid using your phone while driving — this includes texts, calls, changing music, or setting up navigation.
- Don't speed: Stick to the speed limit and avoid going over 80 mph.
- Avoid sudden braking: Stay alert, maintain a safe following distance, and drive defensively so you never have to slam on the brakes.
- Limit late night driving: Night driving can be challenging and impair your reaction times. If you must drive during less safe hours, remain alert and minimize distractions.
Enrollment and Eligibility
Direct Auto policyholders can sign up for DynamicDrive by calling 877-463-4732 or visiting a Direct Auto location. For a new auto policy with DynamicDrive, call, come in, or add DynamicDrive to your online quote.
Call customer service at 866-495-4995 and they can provide a new activation code. You may need a new activation code if it has been over 30 days since we sent you the original one and it has expired, if you have previously deleted the app, or if you have a new smartphone.
The app will support most Apple and Android smartphones.
You may opt out of the DynamicDrive program within the first 30 days of registering for the program, but doing so will cause you to lose your participation discount.
Score, Trips and Events
DynamicDrive combines information from your driving behavior with an overall profile that is used to calculate your performance rating score. The information collected includes:
- Driving time of day
- Distracted driving due to phone handling
- Hard and extreme braking
- High speeding events
Your trip history shows when a driving event occurred. Just a single one of these events will have little significance in your performance score, but we want to make you aware of your driving habits.
- Phone Handling: Phone use can distract you and take your mind off the road. Please be aware and make the roads safe for all.
- Speeding: You'll receive a speeding indicator when you go over the posted speed limit or your speed exceeds 80 mph.
- Sudden Braking: Occurs when your speed is greatly reduced in a short amount of time. Prevent this by keeping a safe following distance.
Troubleshooting and Usage
The app stores a limited number of past trips on your phone. To minimize the impact on your storage space, we clear your trip cache after a certain number of trips.
If a trip is tagged incorrectly, don't worry. You can easily change the tag after your trip by tapping the car button and selecting the correct one. Choose from driver, passenger, train, bus, bicycle, motorcycle, boat, plane, or other.
The app is set up to use the least amount of data possible and will only upload the trip data at the end of a trip when the phone is connected to the internet through Wi-Fi or cellular.
While the app does continuously run in the background of your phone, it will only use battery power while taking a trip. This would be similar to other navigation apps. Note that the app will not engage if the phone's battery level is below 5% unless the phone is connected to a charger.
Privacy
Motion and Fitness is the term Apple uses to describe your phone's motion sensors. We do not measure your fitness activity. However, we do use your phone's motion sensor to detect when you're moving in a car. We also use this sensor to measure your driving events.
This is how Android describes your phone's motion sensors. We do not access your files or photos. We simply use your motion sensor to detect when you're moving in a car.
Never! We only capture data such as trip start and end time, miles driven, acceleration patterns, braking behavior, speed variations, and indications of phone use, including incoming and outgoing calls during a trip.
